Soul of Success With Jack Canfield
CHAPTER 26
THE AMERICAN DREAM
BY DAVID DELGADO
At a very early age in the late 1970s, I was sitting in my grandfather’s black Lincoln Town Car jumping up and down asking my grandfather, “Is that a phone in your car?” Back then they didn’t have cell phones, and this phone was big, black and almost the size of a public phone squeezed in between the front leather seats. I could not believe seeing the size of this phone, and car phones were not in everyone’s budget. My grandfather was successful, as you can assume anyone who had a car phone in their car was. In those days, a car phone was not common and cell phones didn’t exist. I was inspired at an early age by my grandfather’s success.
Our family didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in our mouth; we were average middle class folks. My dad worked in construction with his dad, my other grandfather. My mom was a housewife and I had two siblings and a golden retriever. I enjoyed playing baseball at the local park while my father was the baseball coach. I enjoy thinking back on those years, thinking of all those great days. As time went on, my parents could not get along and they eventually got divorced when I was 8. I felt lost without my father, my soul was sucked out of me. I stopped playing baseball, I didn’t want to talk to anyone or go to any social events, and all I wanted to do was to stay at home.
During this time, 8 more years had passed with no sight of grandpa. Out of site out of mind is true. My mom was forced to take a job to support the three of us and our dad was in and out of our lives as he started a new family. During my early childhood years my mom struggled, so I would always be thinking of ways to entertain myself with my cars or playing in my backyard. My mom hardly made much money, and she would cry herself to sleep in her bedroom.

Then one day we were out to dinner, and this was a spectacular beach
restaurant. With the yachts I saw in the distance, this was not just any
ordinary dinner we were at. My mom had enough gas money to get
us there and back, but not enough to feed her three children at this
beachfront restaurant. Then as we walked through the restaurant, my
mom received a kiss from this tall older man. I was shocked. I didn’t
know who this person was. But this man had a lot of charm, charisma
and was full of life. I asked my mom who was that person that just
kissed her and she said, that’s your grandfather. I said to myself, my
grandfather, who is that? I knew my dad’s father, who was extremely
close to me, but now I had two grandfathers!
At the time, I never realized I had two grandfathers and then it all hit me at once. All the memories, sitting and bouncing in his black Lincoln, at his home looking up to him, my mentor was standing right in front of me. We were definitely out of place at this restaurant. Keep in mind for the past ten years, we didn’t eat out, we didn’t have any money and my mom would cry on her bed, because she could not pay her bills because she had no money. Our house was disorganized; my mom had a tough time raising two boys and a daughter. Going from private school to public school because of the divorce was inevitable.
I remember one day with my mom we sat at the table, having dinner, at a renewed meeting with aunts and uncles at a Christmas dinner. I knew this is what I wanted and had been missing. Throughout my life my grandfather did not know this, but he had been instrumental in my life. I had no relationship with him. It was over the next ten years and a dozen or so times meeting him, from our poor dysfunctional family to the next ten Christmas dinners, which gave me insight that there are two kinds of people.
My grandfather built one of the largest real estate investment firms in Los Angeles County. He was an only child who was raised by his mother and did not attend high school in order to work and help support his mom. He was a mover and a shaker. When he would arrive at the Christmas dinners, he was the most important person in the room.

Celebrate Your Independence… TOO!
Impactful Real Estate News

July
2015
David Delgado, CEO
Delgado Realty Group
Celebrate Your Independence… TOO!
July 4, 1776 is a momentous
day in history for all FREE Country’s across the Globe – AND so is the day we buy
our own home!!! Owning Real Estate,
especially your own home, is a sure fire Celebration
of Independence.
In today’s market, many homeowners
really want to make a move, but are finding themselves in a catch 22 – whether to sell first or buy first. They don’t want to end up getting stuck
owning two homes or none at all. I am sure you will join me in saying we can’t
blame them. I also believe that you
agree with me on this; home ownership is good for ALL. The more who can buy a home, the more who can
sell a home, the more our economy benefits.
And as John F. Kennedy said, “a rising tide lifts all boats”.
Fortunately, I have a special program for Home
Owners wanting to move and Buyers wanting to buy in Today’s market that turns
the tables on this CATCH 22.
Over the last 12+ years of
selling real estate, I have been able to develop and successfully implement a
program that allows me to guarantee the sale of a property. Yep, you read that right. Actually guarantee in writing the sale of a
home. Obviously a program like this
gives sellers GREAT PEACE OF MIND (a true celebration of independence from
fear). I guarantee, up front and in
writing, that if their home does not sell at their price and within their time
frame – I will step in and buy it myself.
The conditions are simple:
the seller and I must agree on price and possession date.
Buyers benefit too, because
we are able to ensure they get the home they want and back up their purchase
with a satisfaction guarantee: if they are not happy with the home, we will buy
it back. This obviously is a win win for all involved.
This
is where you come in.
Your friends, neighbors, work associates and family
members who may be considering a move can now do so and celebrate true
independence from the fear of getting stuck with two homes or none at all.
And remember… Your
referrals Help the Kids…
As you may have heard, St. Jude
Children Research Hospital is front and center in the fight against nasty
diseases that destroy or cut short the lives of Children. We are thankful to have such a wonderful
facility close by, doing such great work to help heal and save young people.
So even though we are eager to enjoy
Summer, others are simply hoping they can be here to see it. This is why we here at Delgado Realty Group
have resolved to do what we can to help.
For every house we sell this year, we are donating a portion of our
income to St. Jude Children Research Hospital. Our goal is to raise another $10,000
to help them in their quest to Heal, Save, Cure and Comfort Children under
their care.
Your Referrals Really Do Help the Kids…
I want to make it easy to refer your friends,
neighbors, associates or family members considering making a move, so here are

Why I Support St. Jude’s Children's Research
Hospital
I grew up right here in Metro Los
Angeles. Born in Whittier Presbyterian Hospital.
I remember when I first heard
about a child suffering from a nasty disease and getting treated for that at St.
Jude’s Children's Research Hospital. It was then that I began to pay closer
attention to the work they do at that hospital. Since then, I have learned that
it is a collection of hard working health care professionals, most making their
home right here in the Metro Los Angeles area, all coming together for a common
cause. That cause is to help young people over come unfortunate health issues
that life sometimes throws our way. Being a California native, I take pride in
supporting in a way that I can the good work these people do at St. Jude’s. My
team rally’s around our annual goal of raising money and donating portions of
our income to help Children's in their quest to heal young people when they
need healing. My team and I are committed to providing outstanding results for
buyers and sellers referred to us by our past clients. I have discovered that St.
Jude’s Children's Research Hospital shares similar commitments to their
patients. And since their services survive on sponsorships and donations we are
happy to contribute and proud to support them.
